September 13, 2002,
IBC, Stand 7.541…CELCO, Rancho Cucamonga, CA, the leader in digital film
recording systems, today introduced internationally the newest digital
film recorder in its product line, the FURY. At IBC 2001 a prototype was
shown to immense interest from studios and post-production facilities
worldwide. IBC2002 is the formal introduction of the FURY, and it is
available immediately.
The FURY, CELCO’s
latest advance in digital film recording technology, will output a
high-resolution frame of film in one second. Facilities will be able to
output approximately 60 minutes of high-resolution digital film per day.
The FURY’s one-second speed includes both high definition and 2K images
onto Kodak 5245 camera negative stock, and less than 2 seconds per frame
for a full Cineon density range 2K image onto Kodak intermediate 2242 film
stock. The system is also capable of very high-speed output of any
resolution up to 4K or higher for larger format purposes such as 70mm. The
FURY can output any type of film stock, including color and black and
white intermediate and camera negative stocks. In addition, the new system
can also output to multiple film formats including 16mm, 35mm, and 65mm 5,
8, 10, and 15-perf (IMAX format).
On March 2002, CELCO
Engineers Paul J. Constantine and Peter M. Constantine received Scientific
and Engineering Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences for the design and development of the CELCO Digital Film Recorder
Products. The Academy cited CELCO film recorder products having a
significant impact on the industry through continual improvements in their
technology. The FURY is a continuation of CELCO's advancement of its
proven award-winning electron beam control technology, for transferring
digital images to motion picture film with precision.
Marketing Director
John Constantine states, “Never before has a film recorder been capable
of achieving images of the highest quality at such an incredible speed.
This changes the rules for imaging facilities, allowing massive digital
film productivity. The FURY dramatically reduces the cost per frame,
enabling a new era where all films will have a digital master negative.”
About CELCO:
CELCO was founded in
1950 by John M. Constantine Sr. as an engineering laboratory dedicated to
high resolution display technology. CELCO’s innovations in the field of
electron beam control soon made the company a leading producer of electron
optics including deflection yokes and focus coils used in high resolution
display systems. Its display components have been used for an abundance of
military and civilian applications in everything from fighter jets, flight
simulators, medical imaging systems, electron beam welders, to the space
shuttle. CELCO also became known for its lab standard test equipment
including high performance deflection amplifiers and precision display
systems. The technologies evolved into the production of complete digital
imaging systems starting in the 1970s with large format satellite imaging
systems to the first motion picture digital film recorder used for
Disney’s TRON in the early 1980s.
Clients have
